Decide your own story...

This morning I received a call and the caller was upset and told me of the "going ons" of a dinner party the night before. As I over heard her strife I realized two things. One, I felt my emotions begin to react to her story, and two, I realized that many of the things she was reacting to was her perception, or interpretation of other people's behaviors. Then I read this morning the following phrase, "No matter who the characters are in your story or what they have done, you are the only one who can give their actions the meaning they will have for you." (Madisyn Taylor). This became more evident when speaking with my partner, and
he presented other versions or possible interpretations.
I am noticing and trying to apply the notion that what is presented in external reality, and I react to it, comes from me not the other way around. This way I get to see glimpses of my inner world as it is "reversed" and presented outwardly. Once I have this, then I can engage with this reaction, this interpretation, and ask myself "Will it be part of my story?"
